Ukraine is still in the harsh shadows of war while the rest of the world watches. The war with Russia is getting close to its third year and doesn’t look like it will end any time soon. Now, on December 25, 2024, things are very bad in Ukraine. They show how strong the country is and how much damage the war has done to its people, land, and future.
Getting worse on the front lines:
In the past few weeks, fighting has gotten much worse along key battlefronts. Ukrainian troops say that shelling has gotten worse in the eastern Donetsk region, and that civilian areas are being hit without discrimination. The city of Kramatorsk was hit by a lot of missiles yesterday, killing at least 15 people and hurting many more. Children were among the dead, which was a terrible blow to families who were trying to find peace in the middle of the fighting.
In response, Ukraine’s military has used advanced weapons from Western partners to launch precise attacks on Russian positions. Reports say that counteroffensives have made big gains near Bakhmut, a city that has become a symbol of defiance in Ukraine. Even with these wins, the price in lives and resources is very high.
