On Wednesday, Russia bombed the city of Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine. The attack, which happened during the day, killed at least 13 people and hurt many more.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine wrote on X, “There is nothing more cruel than dropping bombs on a city knowing that regular civilians will suffer.” The post included a video of dead and hurt people lying in the streets of the city while rescue workers rushed to help.
More than 60 people were hurt in the attack, which Ivan Fedorov, the regional governor of Zaporizhzhia, called an act of “cynicism that hit the city in the middle of the day.” He sent gory pictures from the scene to the Telegram message app, where medical teams and rescue workers were already on the scene.
A volunteer doctor named Slavko Khudiakov was in the city by accident to rest between shifts on the front lines. He told them that he sped to the blast site, going through red lights on the way.
“I got there about seven minutes after the strike,” the 40-year-old Mr. Khudiakov said on the phone.
He said he helped a man whose leg was “torn off.” By the end of the night, he had helped about 10 people with “heavy” injuries. He also said that at least four of them were missing limbs and that other people were hurt by gunfire.
